San Francisco struck its final Franklin Half Dollars in 1954, and the mint then went quiet on half dollar production for the rest of the series. That makes the 1954-S the last S-mint issue Franklin collectors can add to a date-and-mint set. Just under 5 million pieces were released, and most went straight into circulation in the West, so gem survivors with original surfaces turned up far less often than the mintage suggests.

John R. Sinnock's portrait of Benjamin Franklin faces right, with LIBERTY arching above and IN GOD WE TRUST along the lower rim. The date sits to the right of the bust, and the strike shows bold detail in Franklin's hair and the curve of his shoulder. On the reverse, the Liberty Bell dominates the field with E PLURIBUS UNUM at left and the small eagle at right, while the S mintmark rests above the bell's yoke. Legends are crisp and evenly spaced from rim to rim.

PCGS graded this half dollar MS-66, a lofty tier for the issue. Warm russet, gold, and magenta toning frames the obverse rim and softens into bright, satiny luster across the centers, and the reverse carries the same even patina without distracting marks. Eye appeal at this level comes from the combination of clean fields and natural color, and coins that pair both are the ones registry-minded buyers chase. A welcome addition to any set of certified Franklin Half Dollars. The coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive.
