Originally Peace Silver Dollars were minted to commemorate the end of the "war to end all wars," World War I.
Designed by Anthony De Francisci, a renowned medalist of the time, his monogram is located in the field of the coin under the neck of Lady Liberty. The obverse is Lady Liberty modeled by the designer's wife. The reverse of the coin features a bald eagle at rest clutching an olive branch and the word PEACE from which the silver dollar takes its name.
Peace Silver Dollars were struck in Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. Each coin contains .77344 ounces of pure Silver, and they can have a range of dates and mint marks. There are a total of 26 coins in the program with a combined mintage of 190,612,680.
